Leanna Ross

Dr. Leanna M. Ross is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine and member of the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute at the Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Ross received her master’s and doctoral degrees in Exercise Science from the University of South Carolina and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute. In 2025, she was named a fellow of the American Heart Association and the American College of Sports Medicine. With funding from the American Heart Association, National Institutes of Health, and the Duke Pepper Older Americans Independence Center, Dr. Ross's research focuses on understanding the mechanisms by which exercise interventions elicit short- and long-term cardiometabolic health benefits. As cardiometabolic disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States, the goal of her translational research is to enhance the development of evidence-based, precision exercise interventions that optimally prevent and treat disease.
