Nadzua Karisa

Junior, Pratt School of Engineering

Nadzua Karisa is a Junior studying Mechanical Engineering at Duke and a Karsh STEM Scholar. Originally from Kilifi Kenya, she is determined to bring a global perspective to her work and is driven by a desire to use engineering as a tool for community-centered impact. She is passionate about hands-on design, fabrication and engineering solutions that prioritize usability, safety and impact.

Her project experience spans accessibility devices, embedded systems and medical device prototyping. She is particularly motivated by projects that require iteration, testing and learning through doing. Her passion for exploring women's identities in STEM complements her engineering work and pushes her to continue in spaces where representation and inclusion matter.

On campus, she serves as a mentor through the Pratt E-Team and hosts This Engineering Life, a podcast highlighting engineering experiences at Duke. Outside of school, she enjoys coloring, painting, cooking for her friends and traveling.
