Dale Threatt-Taylor
M.E.M.'11, Executive Director, The Nature Conservancy South Carolina
Dale Threatt-Taylor is the executive director of The Nature Conservancy's South Carolina Chapter. Dale received a Bachelor of Science in conservation from North Carolina State University and a Master of Environmental Management from Duke University. Her leadership work has led to successful projects in land protection, implementation of coastal nature-based solutions, healthy forest management with prescribed fire, freshwater and restoration policy, climate mitigation, and sustainability partnerships. Her conservation and environmental leadership includes service on national, state, and local boards and committees. Dale made history when elected to serve as Chair of the Soil and Water Conservation Society's (SWCS) national Board of Directors. She currently serves as Past Chair of Sustain SC Board of Directors and also serves on the Board of Visitors of the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, NC State University's Natural Resources Foundation Board of Directors, and Conservation Legacy Board of Directors. As an environmental leader, Dale understands the importance of renewed commitment to learning, as seen with her recent completion of the Executive Leadership Development Program at Cambridge University. She is also a Fellow of the Sustainability Leadership Initiative (SLI) in South Carolina and a Fellow of The Riley Institute's Diversity Leaders Initiative (DLI) at Furman University. Her career began as a Soil Conservationist with the USDA NRCS and later continued with the Wake Soil and Water Conservation District. The Board of Supervisors appointed Dale to District Director of Wake SWCD and Wake County Soil and Water Conservation Department. Her current role as Executive Director for TNC-SC has provided the opportunity to build new relationships between natural resource conservationists and environmentalists nationwide. She was honored with The Order of the Long Leaf Pine from North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper for dedicated work in conservation. Dale has served as a keynote speaker on several occasions, including as the spring commencement guest speaker for the Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment graduation ceremony. Dale was also awarded the Hugh Hammond Bennett Award, SWCS's most prestigious award. Dale wants everyone to understand that locally led conservation begins with an individual, and together, our conservation work is crucial in protecting the lands and waters on which all life depends.
